The Challenge
San Juan Islands required a complete reimagining of residential garage design: replacing traditional overhead doors with sophisticated Weiland lift & slide pocketing systems. The project featured three automated garage bays—two at 12-foot by 8-foot (960 pounds each) and one at 12-foot by 12-foot (1,440 pounds)—all using frosted glass panels that pocket completely when open. The client wanted the convenience of traditional garage door automation with remote operation and safety sensors, but with an architectural aesthetic far superior to standard overhead systems. The solution needed to function exactly like conventional garage doors while elevating the garage from utilitarian space to refined architectural statement.
The Solution
Lucent specified the Weiland lift & slide door systems, and in partnership with XL Glass Lifting for installation, we engineered three Peak motors in a vertical configuration—one per garage bay. Each system includes remote controls for in-car operation, functioning identically to traditional garage door openers. Beam sensors prevent doors from closing on parked vehicles, providing the same safety features homeowners expect. The frosted glass panels pocket completely when open, creating seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. The result: three garage bays that operate with the convenience of traditional overhead doors but deliver the sophisticated aesthetic of high-end architectural glazing—proving that even the most utilitarian spaces can be transformed into design features.
