PIVOT DOOR

The Challenge
Roederer Winery's tasting room entrance required a completely custom solution: an automated 6-foot by 8-foot pivot door (500 pounds) with all mechanical components concealed within the door's 4-inch aluminum tube header. The design demanded seamless integration where visitors wouldn't see any automation components, combined with motion-sensor activation timed precisely so the door opens as guests approach—creating an effortless, intuitive entry experience. The project required custom fabrication of both the concealed motor housing and the door structure itself, integrating with Fritsjurgens pivot hardware while allowing for future serviceability.
The Solution
As part of our custom division capabilities, we designed and fabricated a complete solution from structure to automation. We engineered a motor specifically mounted inside the 4-inch square aluminum tube header, providing both complete concealment and easy service access. The custom door skeleton was milled from 2-inch square aluminum tubing to accept Fritsjurgens pivot hardware, with the builder applying California Redwood veneer that will age naturally with the winery's aesthetic. Motion sensors were strategically positioned to detect approaching visitors and trigger door opening before they instinctively reach for the handle. The result: a primary tasting room entrance that appears to open by itself, welcoming guests with perfectly timed automation while maintaining the winery's refined, natural aesthetic—all mechanics invisible within the custom-engineered header.
