POINT GREY

VANCOUVER, BC

  • EVEREST MOTOR

  • 4 PANELS

  • 12,000 LBS

  • MULTI-SLIDE

The Challenge

Point Grey presented an exceptional automation challenge: a 20-foot tall by 28-foot wide corner door system with four massive triple-pane panels, each weighing 3,000 pounds. The Otiima multi-slide configuration required moving 9,000 pounds across the front (three panels) and 3,000 pounds on the side (single panel) independently. Structural constraints added complexity—motors needed to mount above a steel beam, with the drive shaft passing through the beam's flanges. The architectural vision demanded completely invisible automation components and flawless operation despite the extreme weight and unconventional mounting scenario.

The Solution

In collaboration with Lucent, who specified and coordinated the Otiima door system, we engineered a dual Everest motor solution with K2 horizontal mounting configuration for the corner application. Custom attachment brackets connect the door panels to the drive belt, while the motors mount above the steel beam with drive shafts passing through the beam flanges. The system integrates with Lutron home automation for seamless control. All automation components—motors, controls, and mechanics—are concealed, with only minimal track visible. The result: 3,000-pound panels gliding effortlessly at the touch of a button, with zero visible mechanical components disrupting the clean architectural lines.
