HOME BLOCK

KELOWNA, BC

  • EVEREST MOTOR

  • 6 PANELS

  • 4,800 LBS

  • POCKET

The Challenge

Home Block Restaurant at one of Kelowna's most prestigious wineries required a transformative solution: a massive 48-foot tall by 12-foot high Dynamic Steel six-panel bi-parting door system totaling 4,800 pounds (800 pounds per panel). The architectural vision demanded seamless transformation from intimate indoor dining to an expansive outdoor vineyard experience. Operating such extreme scale with a single motor required over 150 feet of drive belt while maintaining flawless synchronized operation. The system needed to be reliable for occasional use, creating a dramatic transformation as weather permits outdoor dining.

The Solution

Working alongside Lucent's specification of the Dynamic Steel door system, we engineered a single Everest motor in a vertical configuration to control the entire 48-foot bi-parting system. All six panels pocket completely at each end, with over 150 feet of belt delivering synchronized, reliable operation. Though the transformation takes several minutes, the gradual opening becomes part of the dining experience—guests watch the building seamlessly transition from enclosed space to an outdoor garden setting overlooking the vineyard. The result: one of the largest single-motor commercial applications ever installed, proving that exceptional scale and single-motor operation can coexist with proper engineering and the right motor selection.
