The Challenge
Granite Bay presented the ultimate retrofit challenge: a 25-foot Western five-panel pocketing door (2,000 pounds total) installed without automation that the homeowners couldn't operate manually. The door remained unused because moving 400-pound panels by hand proved impractical. The retrofit required accessing the pocket space behind already-installed panels, routing all power and control wiring through finished walls, concealing the control box in the completed space, and installing a wall switch near the primary panel—all without major demolition or disruption to the finished interior.
The Solution
We removed the pocket panel to access the back of the pocket space, then engineered a Peak motor with a side mount configuration for the constrained retrofit application. All wiring for power and controls was run through the pocket wall, with the control box positioned at floor level behind furniture for complete concealment. We fished wire to the latch side of the door to install a wall switch near the primary panel for convenient operation. The result: a previously unusable door transformed into an effortlessly automated system—proving that even completed installations without automation provisions can be successfully retrofitted with proper engineering and installation expertise.
